Day 1NegomboFind a comfortable perch to watch the local fishing boats, head out to sea or stroll along the beach to see the daily catch drying in the sun.
Days 2-3AnuradhapuraStep back in time with a visit to the 12th-century palace at Panduwasnuwara and the rock fortress of Yapahuwa, before touring Sri Lanka's most important ancient city, Anuradhapura, by bicycle.
Day 4PolonnaruwaJump on the bikes once more and explore the remains of the 1,000-year-old city of Polonnaruwa. Sri Lanka's famous granite Buddha sleeps peacefully among the ruins.
Day 5Dambulla Caves/SigiriyaUnder a heavy rock overhang sits the Dambulla Cave Temple, home to some 150 Buddha images.
Days 6-7KandyStop to savour the fragrant smells of spice and herb gardens before heading to the cooler climes of Kandy to enjoy an evening performance of traditional dancing and firewalking.
Days 8-10Bandarawela/HaputaleLearn how to turn fresh ingredients into a delicious feast at a cooking demonstration and take a walk through picturesque tea plantations.
Days 11-12MirissaSoak up the sun, relax on the beach and take a dip in the calm clear waters of Mirissa. For the more active there is the option of hiring a bike and riding to nearby fishing villages.
Day 13GalleObserve Hindu rituals at morning prayers and explore the colonial town of Galle. Watch the sunset from the ramparts of the town's fort.
Days 14-15ColomboSay goodbye to the lovely Sri Lankan coast and catch up on some shopping in the country's commercial heart.
