DayDestinationDescription
Day 1BangkokThailand's cosmopolitan capital pulses with energy. Tap into it at the enormous Chatuchak weekend market or by taking a tuk tuk through the heaving streets. Otherwise, drop by at the Ratchadamnoen Stadium for an electrifying Thai boxing match.
Days 2-4Siem Reap/Angkor WatThe road to Cambodia leads to the former kingdom of the Khmers, built between the 9th and 13th centuries. Experience the extravagant beauty of the temples of Angkor from sun up to sundown and learn the symbolism behind the exquisite bas-reliefs from our knowledgeable guide. The temples were believed to represent the cosmic world and were set in perfect balance, symmetry and composition. They are still remarkable today. Explore the great architectural sites of Angkor Wat, the Bayon and impressive jungle-covered Ta Prohm. There is also plenty to do and see in Siem Reap, including the interesting Gecko Conservation Centre.
Days 5-6Phnom PenhRecall the chilling events of Cambodia's past in S-21, the notorious Khmer concentration camp and Choeng Ek, the site of the infamous Killing Fields where some 8,000 human skulls mark the site of past tragedies. The Silver Pagoda and Royal Palace reveal a lighter side of history. Wat Phnom is a peaceful temple situated on the hill for which the city is named and the Russian Market is a good place to pick up a traditional krama (scarf). It's also possible to take a stroll along the famous Sisowath Quay and enjoy a cocktail at one of the many atmospheric cafes while watching Phnom Penh locals hurry by.
Day 7Chau DocFeel the wind on your face while travelling up the mighty Mekong in a speedboat and crossing into Vietnam along the way. Check out the floating houses of Chao Doc, watch fishermen ply their trade and maybe even explore the cave pagoda at Sam Mountain, where the best views of the region can be had. Get a fascinating look at river life and watch a fabulous sunset over the mighty Mekong, a river that is essential to farming, fishing and agriculture in the region.
Days 8-9Ho Chi Minh CityIt's back to frenetic streets, overflowing markets and the boisterous street vendors' calls in bustling Ho Chi Minh City. Hunt for bargains in the bustling Ben Thanh Market or discover the lingering French presence that remains in the form of colonial buildings, coffee and freshly baked baguettes all over the city.
