Dalmatian Coastal Explorer
A coastal city with a mountainous backdrop, Split has a vibrant history that dates back to the 3rd Century AD, when the Roman Emperor Diocletian made it his home. His palace became the basis of the town and ideal place to start our adventure that takes us along arguably Europe's most spectacular coastline. By combining boat trips with walking, canoeing and cycling excursions, we immerse ourselves into the fabric of historic islands such as Brac, Hvar, Mljet and Lokrum. Narrow cobblestone streets, charming "piazzas", Gothic churches and secretive monasteries are some of the many surprises that await us at every turn. We also experience natural beauty and unspoilt tranquillity by riding our bicycles out to small villages, vineyards, olive groves and quiet, remote beaches. Along the way we sample the culinary delights of the region, especially the delicious local seafood. The jewel in the crown is the walled city of Dubrovnik, which has withstood invasions and wars over the centuries and still maintains its place as one of Europe's grand cities - a combination of Gothic, Renaissance and Romanesque architectural influences, art treasures and medieval ambience, all set against background of the blue Adriatic Sea.
